Lilac and soft colours wedding in Baccus Marsh VIC

This was a lovely soft coloured wedding in Baccus Marsh.
I enjoyed the drive - I've never been out west for weddings in Melbourne.
The hills and the landscape was beautiful. It's so different to what we see on this side of Melbourne.

The day of the wedding was SOOOO hot, that when we went to set up, the candles were melting in the sun.
So, obviously we were extremely worried how the flowers, but when I tested them afterwards, surprisingly flowers were quite okay.

I couldn't help but say "Fiesta!" when I made the bouquets & buttonholes for today's wedding.
It was so fun & gorgeous.
I'd actually like to call these rainbow bouquets (I know, some colours are missing ;P) not just because this is a fun colourful bouquet, but also because I saw a big rainbow on the way to delivering this bouquet.
It's quite special isn't it? :)

Merry Christmas everyone! :)

Hope everyone is having a lovely day with family and friends.

I've got a news for you, Some of you may have already found out if you have visited the webpage.

I'm taking a break from wedding flowers for a while.

For those that have book me for their wedding in 2012 - thank you :)

I will of course be doing your flowers; and for those who are considering me, please don't hesitate to contact me. It just means that I'm not handing out info to new enquiries.

This idea came as I became a little more aware of the environmental impact of flower industry.

I do what I can do to help the environment;

-Using 100% recycled paper and not printing when I don't need to

-Buying local flowers as much as possible

-Recycling cardboard, paper and plastic as much as possible

-Composting green waste from weddings

-Driving prius (to reduce carbon emission)

But that's about it I can do - I can't do anything about the environmental impact of growing and transporting of flowers and greenery.

So I came up with an idea of growing my own flowers and greenery to create a "pick and make your own bouquet/arrangement" destination in Melbourne.

It's going to take a lot of planning/investing/planting and growing, but if this is going to make me more confident and happy in what I do, I'm determined to do this.

I will keep my email address, blog & the facebook page just to give you some updates in what I'm doing; and I'd definitely let you know through here when I'm ready to open up the "community flower garden"! :)

In the meanwhile, I'll be one of the organisers of a new NPO in parmaculture and sustainability.

Also, when my friend opens up a cafe mid 2012 I'll be selling flowers there too - which I will also let you know when it happens.

Thank you so much for your support in the last 3 years, and hopefully, I'll come back bigger and better in a couple of years! :)

I can't believe I forgot to share this with you!

This is a mixed bouquet with roses, carnation, ranunculus and some other garden flowers + ivy.

The varigated colours in ivy is just spectacular - it almost looks fake.

Actually, I find it interesting that when I have some gorgeous flowers and greenery in my hands, people say

"Wow, that is so beautiful!! Are they real?"

...Does that mean they think artificial things are more beautiful???

Flower demonstration & small arrangement making class

I went to a lovely group of Japanese cultural & parmaculture group today, where I had the opportunity to do a flower demonstration and a little lesson for making a small floral arrangement into an oasis (flower foam) .

It was very interesting - due to the nature of the gathering, ladies were into organic/biodinamic farming and gardening and many ladies had already experienced flower arrangement/Ikebana before. So there was something to learn for me too.
Eventually, I want to grow the flowers and greenery used in any Sugar Bee Flowers design (weddings, classes, home & corporate flowers..) may become possible with the help of these ladies. :) :) :)

Poppies are in season! They are amazing flower (as with every other flowers), they start from a hairy pod with a stem with no leaves and they break the pod to open its amazing, large, frilly & such pretty flowers. :)

It's so very cooooooold on the Gold Coast. In fact, it's only about 2 degrees warmer than Melbourne.
If I can do it here, I can do it in Melbourne too. Haha

I have had some very lovely comments from past brides.. I'll share one with you today.

Yooouuuki!!I didn't get a chance on the day to say thank you so much for the flowers.Honestly, they were even better than I was expecting!!! I didn't get to see the tables/reception set up until early evening and it was breath taking and your flower arrangements had a lot to do with that. They were gorgeous!! So many people commented on them.I couldn't stop saying how gorgeous they looked!! We just got back from our honeymoon yesterday and it was so, so awesome! Felt like we were gone for months. I left my bouquet in a vase before I left and I can't bring myself to throw it out!! So, yes, it's safe to say you did an absolutely spectacular job - you really went above and beyond and we can't thank you enough!Are you still moving to Melbourne?? Today's wedding was a really sweet one with mixed pink + cream.

This wedding was at Coolibah downs Nerang, the bride is wearing off white/ivory wedding dress and the bridesmaids wore fuchsia pink dresses which I think is really fun and different! :)

The flowers were to compliment the fuchsia pink colour by using different pinks and cream. We didn't use any greenery for this wedding.

Ice cream bowl arrangement

Hi guys. :) Second post in a day.

I made this arrangement last night into my new, big ice cream bowl. (which is what I've requested for a mother's day present)
Now, I always tell the bride who want to use tulips, that tulips grow. And this is what I'm talking about..

Do you see what I mean?

Tulips grow towards the light and they grow so much even in a few hours!

They'll be nice in an arm sheaf (so it's not so obvious when they grow) and for a winter wedding, because they don't grow as much in cool weather.

I went to teach the kids at Whispering Gully Child Care Centre some flower arrangement this morning!
It was so fun watching the kids do the arrangements :)

First, I did some demonstration,

Wedding flowers in organic colours and no roses

This wedding was at the Ecostudio Fellini, which is on the way to the springbrook national park.
The green you see when you get out of the car is just spectacular!! The mountains on the Gold Coast is so amazing!
Strangely, I was attracted more to the beaches when I was living in Sydney, but now the mountains and bushes attract me much more on the Gold Coast. :)

So, going onto the flowers, the flowers were oh so unique and so gorgeous!

The bride Kelly did not want to go for the roses and chose such amazing combination of flowers :)

These are photos from my family portrait :D These were taken by the very talented Atsuto from Kitanobo Photography. We had so much fun at this shoot!
We went to Tamborine Mountains - which is my favorite location on the Gold Coast.
We didn't even realize, but it was so Autumn up in the mountains! It's not down where we live. :(
It's so lovely to see the different colours of different seasons - It's so good for the kids too to see the different colours and experience different textures.
I'm really looking forward to experiencing 4 seasons when we move to Melbourne in July!!

We had a family photo shoot today at Tamborine Mountains!

I will share with you the photos once I get them from Atsuto at Kitanobo Photography. :)

For now, here are the flowers I used for the shoot.

This week was a very funny flower week because of the long weekends, there were very minimal availability. :( But here's what I've done with what I could get:

The set up was so sweet with a hint of antique - I think this is the sweetest wedding I have done so far.
Each table had 2 jars with flowers, 1 with just babies breath, the other with a mix of pink flowers & some greenery. The candle in a jar was on antique books, which was so cute! It would have looked amazing lit up.

I work from home right now, but when I move to Melbourne in July, I'm thinking of opening a store.
Hmm, I'll let you know what will happen :)

This was a fun orange, pink & white wedding in Brisbane, at Wynnum Golf Club.
I love bright coloured flowers - makes me real happy looking at them.
This is really going to pop and look absolutely amazing against the white/ivory wedding dress.

The reception flowers were really simple and sophisticated.
They usually have candles in these, but it's a great idea to have flowers in there.
It adds colour and it's an really interesting feature.

I was exhausted yesterday, and when I looked at the sky, it was absolutely AMAZING!!

I didn't edit this photo. The sky was actually like this.

It was cloudy, but there was a straight stream of blue sky. So strange, so beautiful.

It actually make my heart beat faster.

I nearly had an heart attack on Friday because the David Austins I bought were so beautiful!!!

Here are some photos of today's wedding at Historic windmill near Tamborine mountain and Canungra (not sure of the exact suburb!).
The bride was originally going to wear a wedding dress with ivory top and skirt with pink/lilac floral pattern so we decided on the colours based on the design of the dress.

At the end, she decided to wear an ivory dress, but I'm sure this bouquet complimented her beauty anyway. :)

We had our kids' birthday party today!

I was hoping it didn't rain - it did shower a couple of times but ended up being a nice and windy day out at a park. :)

Today I went to deliver wedding bouquets and buttonholes to Santai Resort just south of Kingscliff.
It was my first time there, but my gosh it was a BEAUTIFUL place!! It looked like Balinese hotel/resort with modern tropical designs through out. It was amazing! I must go stay someday. :)

The colours for today's wedding were white, dusky pink and lilac. The bride was so lovely to work with. She wasn't actually fussy at all with the flower choices.
The bridal bouquet was a neutral one with mix of white flowers, bridesmaids bouquets with the colours of dusky pink, lilac and a little white. They looked like little candies!

Calla lilies and natives wedding

This was from a while ago, but it was such a beautiful wedding that I thought I'd share it with you today.

The wedding was at Currumbin beach then reception at Elephant Rock Cafe also in Currumbin.

The bride was Japanese, the groom was an Aussie..

What I thought was really beautiful was they wanted native flowers arranged into a wooden box decorated with Japanese "washi" - decorative hand-made paper, to symbolise marriage and respect for each ethnicity/culture.

I can only imagine what the Brisbane people are feeling now.. fear, devastation, disbelief... My heart goes out to all of you. I also feel for those who are planning to get married between today and the next few days in Brissie. I'm not sure what will happen to the wedding industry around Brisbane area in the next few days, but I know that flower side of things has sure been affected by the floods - as I have been contacted by my supplier (in Brisbane) and was told that they are not getting the flowers.
At this time of severe event we just need to wait and see what the mother nature will bring us and wish for the best. Keep your hopes up people! As long as we have each other, the rest will be okay.

First of all, let me just start with the flood that happened last night in Toowomba and flood threats around Brisbane today. I hope no other lives are lost, nor major damages are caused. I feel very sad and useless just watching this happen on TV. I have donated what I can and now wish for the best for the people in the area..

I had a wedding at Crowne Plaza Surfers Paradise today which cheered me up quite a lot.
The bride had chosen bright, happy, mixed yellow bouquet - which was I think a fantastic choice for a rainy day like today.

I don't usually use blue (mostly because there are not many blue flowers out there!), but to see the beautiful contrast with the brown on the branch and the blue/purple of the wreath was absolutely amazing.
Recommended for weddings! Imagine getting married under this..so cute!
